Deerfield Beach, Florida: Reminiscing (with Video!)

When my brothers and I were little, we’d visit my grandparents in Boca Raton, Florida every December; we stayed in Deerfield Beach. Some highlights: hotel breakfast with a wonderful chef named Santos, cruising Millionaire Mile on rented scooters, the old-time soda fountain at the nearby Howard Johnson and, especially, lots of laughs, stone crab claws and, when we were old enough, Tequizas (remember those?) at the Whale’s Rib on Northeast 2nd Street. But don’t take my word for it. Kyle, the youngest in my famiglia, happened to be in the area a few weeks ago during a trip that overlapped with my birthday. He videotaped himself guiding me along Memory Lane and, while he’s definitely a little nuts (in the most wonderful possible way), isn’t it unpredictability that makes for the best TV? Do you hear me, casting agents??
